My Top Design Trends for 2021

At Glow Architects we're known for giving multipurpose spaces an avant-garde look with a grand millennial and charming design, but to do so we try to stay on top of the latest trends that are coming our way by researching and paying attention to what the big manufacturers are doing and by attending to the most important architecture and interior design events.

In my opinion, the COVID crisis has influenced on how architects and designers are thinking and creating right now. Based on what I've been reading around, some of the interior design and furniture pieces I've seen that are coming soon to the architecture and interior design industry, and from my personal experience in general, I've come to a conclusion in regards to my top 2021 biggest trends. These trends I believe will force us to reimagine the definition of what a "home” is.

This year people will be looking for houses that not only assist on their practical daily purposes, but for houses that nourish their souls and bring the family together. A place to be and exist as your true self but also to find balance between work and personal time.

Due to the high levels of stress one can experience while working from home, trying to multitask while taking care of the kids and family in general, home schooling and such; serenity will become a foundation of design, encouraging people to connect with greenery and natural elements indoors and outdoors in 2021.

Bright, cheerful colors are also to the extent of upcoming changes. The Pantone colors of the year for 2021 will include the energetic "Illuminating" as part of the palette together with "Ultimate Grey" .

The truth is, we all need to be uplifted, especially while being at home after everything that is going on around the world with all the lockdowns, wearing masks everywhere, and being away from our loved ones. The colors used in the spaces we inhabit play an important role on this matter as it affects us and our psychological perception of the room we're at. I believe using yellow as the color of the year is a smart move. It's something positive and hopeful to look at.

A few things that as an Architect and Interior Designer I feel we will see in 2021:

-The multi-tasking houses: Our homes will experience a profound change. We will see more home gyms, greenery, and office spaces as some of the absolute “must haves” now.

-Kitchens will get new designs in 2021: Yes multipurpose kitchens are in the cards in 2021. Education, cooking and eating spaces coexisting will be an option. Trendy high-tech kitchens are going to be part of 2021.

-The importance of outdoor areas have increased: Due to the pandemic, houses with outdoor settings were liked the most. People will keep a designated space as an outdoor area at their houses where they can sit, exercise, and have spiritual time. In short, quality family time will drive our designs. We will see green outdoors for fresh air, mental health balance and eco-friendly places.
